Large Pop-Up Bar of Burl, Quilted & Crown-Cut Walnut
Large English Art Deco Pop-Up Bar of Spectacular
Burl, Quilted & Crown-Cut Walnut, Circa 1930's...
This nice sized
cabinet features spectacular European bookmatched burl walnut veneers on the front, crown-cut veneers on the trim & quilted
veneers on the top & sides... all over natural mahogany and including a cedar backing & bottom. Note how
the veneers flow from the top of the cabinet in a seamless manner and cascade down the sides in continuous & intriquing
patterns... Incredible artisanship! (What strange image do you see within these veneer patterns?) When the
drop-down door is lowered, the top pops-up and the original light fixture which has been rewired for American circuit automatically
illuminates. The spacious bar service is lined in a gorgeous blonde sycamore and includes clear but patterned mirrors
on the back & sides (very different), a clear mirror on the drop-down door with unique wooden cutouts for retaining stemware
and wooden cutouts along the bottom for retaining various sized highball glasses. Attached to the pop-up panel are six
original multi-colored bakelite martini picks and a fabricated circular holder to retain the original polished chrome juicer.
The bottom storage area is lined in the same natural mahogany, accessed via two double-doors that can be locked with
the original barrel key, includes a small center wooden shelf & row of wooden cutouts along the bottom for retaining liquor
bottles and features ample room for plenty of bottles & barware.. Of particular note are the very unusual &
beautiful Art Deco bakelite pulls... I've never encountered this fantastic design before!
